Privacy Policy

AwkLess is an automated invoice reminder tool for freelancers, built and operated by AwkLess by Adil Maayou. As the operator of this service, Adil Maayou (France) is the data controller responsible for your personal data. If you have any questions about this policy, email us at privacy@getawkless.com.

We only collect what we need to run the service:

• Your account info — email address and display name when you sign up.
• Invoice data — client names, client email addresses, invoice amounts, due dates, and reference numbers that you enter or upload.
• Payment info — handled entirely by Stripe. We never see or store your card number.
• Usage data — basic logs of actions in the app (invoice created, reminder sent) to keep the service running and debug issues.

We do not collect browsing history, sell your data, or use it for advertising. Ever.

• To send automated reminder emails to your clients on your behalf — legal basis: performance of a contract.
• To manage your account and subscription — legal basis: performance of a contract.
• To send you service emails (reminders about to send, delivery failures, billing receipts) — legal basis: performance of a contract.
• To monitor errors and fix bugs (via Sentry) — legal basis: legitimate interest in maintaining a reliable service.
• To improve the product based on anonymised usage patterns — legal basis: legitimate interest in developing the service.

We use a small number of trusted services to run AwkLess:

• Clerk (clerk.com) — handles login and authentication.
• Supabase (supabase.com) — stores your data securely in a PostgreSQL database.
• Stripe (stripe.com) — processes subscription payments.
• Resend (resend.com) — delivers reminder emails to your clients and service emails to you.
• Sentry (sentry.io) — captures error reports so we can diagnose and fix bugs.
• Upstash (upstash.com) — rate limiting and caching, processes IP addresses and user IDs.
• Vercel (vercel.com) — hosts and runs the application infrastructure.

We do not share your data with anyone else. We do not sell your data. We do not use your client data for any purpose other than sending the reminders you activate.

Some of our service providers are based outside the European Union, including the United States (Clerk, Supabase, Stripe, Resend, Sentry, Vercel) and the United Kingdom (Upstash). Transfers to the United States are covered by Standard Contractual Clauses (SCCs) approved by the European Commission; transfers to the United Kingdom are covered by the European Commission's UK adequacy decision. • All data is encrypted in transit (HTTPS) and at rest.
• Your data is isolated — no other AwkLess user can access your invoices or client information.
• We use industry-standard authentication through Clerk.
• Payment processing is handled by Stripe, who are PCI-DSS compliant.
• We do not log or store your clients' payment details.

You are in control of your data at all times:

• Access — you can see all your data from your dashboard.
• Export — contact us and we'll send you a copy of everything we hold about you.
• Delete — you can delete your account from Settings. This immediately and permanently removes all your data from our systems, including all invoices, clients, and reminder history.
• Unsubscribe — you can cancel your Pro subscription at any time from Settings with no penalty.
• Withdraw consent — where we rely on your consent to process your data, you can withdraw it at any time by contacting us. This will not affect the lawfulness of processing before withdrawal.

If you are based in the EU or UK, you have additional rights under GDPR including the right to object to processing and the right to data portability. Email us at privacy@getawkless.com to exercise any of these rights.

You also have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority. In France, this is the CNIL (www.cnil.fr). In the UK, this is the ICO (www.ico.org.uk).

We use a small number of cookies strictly necessary to run the app:

• Session cookie — keeps you logged in (managed by Clerk).
• Theme preference — remembers if you prefer dark or light mode (stored in your browser only).

We do not use advertising cookies or tracking pixels. We do not use Google Analytics or similar tools.

We keep your data for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, we remove your personal data immediately. Billing records may be retained for up to 7 years as required by law.

If we make significant changes to this policy, we will notify you by email before the changes take effect. Minor updates may be made without notice — the ‘Last updated’ date at the top will always reflect the current version.
